Markham Miller serves as Chief Philanthropy Officer of St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation in San Francisco, California. A veteran philanthropy professional with almost 22 years working with and for Dignity Health, Markham spent the last four as Senior Director of St. Mary’s Foundation, and the previous 15 years as Vice President of the Saint Francis Foundation. A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Markham has been dedicated to philanthropy and the art and science of nonprofit management for 35 years.

Markham led the successful Centennial Campaign to renovate the Emergency Department and Bothin Burn Center at Saint Francis, as well as the more recent campaign to renovate the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s. As a long-time manager and leader, Markham is well known at both hospitals and his relationships help to build important bridges as the two hospitals work ever closer to serve the needs of San Franciscans who turn to the hospitals for care. Burnishing his leadership skills has been important in Markham’s professional development, and, in 2019, he completed the CommonSpirit Health Emerging Leaders Cohort.

As dedicated as Markham is to his work, his avocations are eclectic and interesting. Markham is an avid runner and has completed 34 marathons – including 6 Boston Marathons. He is a member of the USA Track and Field Pacific Association and races competitively as a member of the Excelsior Running Club. Markham has also performed in numerous regional theatrical productions and studied at the American Conservatory Theatre. Additionally, as a volunteer, Markham serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Playwrights Foundation.
