Summit Logo WebCommonSpiritHealth®'s Philanthropy Summit was held in a virtual format. Bringing together approximately 300 philanthropy professionals across 21 states, the event featured dozens of live audience watch sites across the country.

The broadcast began with a warm welcome from Nancy Bussani, Chief Philanthropy Officer and President of CommonSpirit Health Foundation, who emphasized the importance of togetherness in advancing CommonSpirit's mission.

"To learn from each other and allow the power and scale of our orgnaization to drive our opportunites to become better together," says Bussani. "We're leveling up by working together."

Removing Race from the Equation

African American MedicalCommonSpirit Health has taken another giant step forward in achieving health equity for all, with the launch of its Equity Heals: Addressing Chronic Kidney Disease outreach initiative.

Medical professionals use an assessment tool called estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to measure the kidneys’ ability to filter waste and toxins from the blood. A lower eGFR could indicate kidney disease or other issues with their function.

The eGFR algorithm adjusts for numerous factors when calculating results, such as age, weight, height — and, until recently, race.

The unfortunate reality is that human trafficking impacts every country, including the United States. Many victims are presenting to medical facilities and emergency departments right within our communities, but their caregivers aren’t recognizing what’s really going on, so they aren’t getting the attention they need.

At CHI Saint Joseph Health in the heart of Kentucky, two programs — Green Dot and Sources of Strength — are quietly reshaping school culture and saving lives. Supported by philanthropic gifts to CommonSpirit Health Foundation and run by violence-prevention managers embedded in the school systems, the programs train students not only to recognize warning signs of harm — bullying, dating violence, cyber abuse, suicidal ideation, and more — but also to become active "green dots" who step in, delegate help, or distract to interrupt danger.

CHI Health Good Samaritan Foundation has received its largest single gift to date, $12.6 million, dedicated to advancing women's health in the region. A private foundation recently contributed to the expansion and renovation of the hospital's Maternity Center and Interventional Cardiology Suites.

CHI St. Vincent Announces $5 Million Gift Gift Will Fund Creation of New Advanced Cardiac Care Center

CHI St. Vincent Donation

CHI St. Vincent located in Little Rock, Arkansas is a leading regional health network serving Central and Southwest Arkansas, announces a $5 million gift from Isabel  and John Ed Anthony for the creation of the Anthony Center for Advanced Cardiac Care at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. This is the largest single gift that CHI St. Vincent has ever received. 

The Anthony Center for Advanced Cardiac Care will be the new standard for the diagnosis and treatment of heart-related conditions. CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute is the largest heart program in the state and ranked #1 for heart care in Central Arkansas by U.S. News & World Report.
