Get to know: Robin D. Perry
We’re pleased to introduce you to Robin Perry, President of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees. Robin is also a member of the foundation’s Low Vision Center fundraising committee, golf committee, investment committee and marathon committee.
An attorney for the past 22 years, Robin is the President of the Long Beach Bar Association and a member of 100 Black Men of Long Beach. He is married with two children.
What was your first connection to the hospital and the foundation?
Retired School Board Member Dr. Felton Williams invited me to join the St. Mary Medical Center Ambassador’s Board in 2013.
How did you come to serve on the foundation’s board?
Drew Gagner invited me to join the foundation board in 2017.
What have you learned as a result of your board service and connection to the hospital?
I have learned what an incredible place St. Mary is. St. Mary sits in a neighborhood with wonderful people who are economically challenged. The staff at St. Mary provides kind and loving care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. The foundation supports the medical staff and provides resources so that St. Mary can go off campus and provide low vision services to students who cannot afford them. Our Families and Good health program provides health access for our Southeast Asian and Latino communities. Our CARE program provides care for those suffering from AIDS. The work St. Mary does for those who are most vulnerable inspires me and has taught me so much.
What role does gratitude play in your philanthropy and service?
It feels good to be appreciated for the work, but it is not necessary. The warm feeling that you get inside when you can help someone is proof that God is smiling down for what you have done.
What excites you most about the next five years for the foundation and hospital?
At St. Mary we are getting a whole new campus and I am looking forward to seeing those plans take shape. St. Mary has made a number of changes to further improve patient care. I look forward to seeing those improvements blossom in the coming years.
