Violence Prevention and
Human Trafficking Response

Violence is a public health issue that puts vulnerable families, particularly women and children, at risk. CommonSpirit is a national leader in providing Violence Prevention and Human Trafficking Response Programs. Philanthropic support has helped drive the education of our providers and staff to identify patients and families who may be impacted by human trafficking or other types of abuse, neglect and violence, and we equip providers and staff to provide trauma-informed care and services to those affected. These programs are ready to be expanded to serve even more communities in need.

CommonSpirit Takes a Stand

At CommonSpirit, our Human Trafficking (HT) Response Program equips physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and staff to identify and assist patients who may be experiencing human trafficking or other types of abuse, neglect, and violence. To do this, we implemented a system-wide Abuse, Neglect, and Violence policy, which requires acute and continuing care facilities to adopt procedures that support physicians, APPs, and staff in efforts to:

  • Identify patients who may be victims of violence, including human trafficking
  • Provide trauma-sensitive assistance to patients (e.g., using the PEARR Tool)
  • Complete mandated reporting requirements, if applicable and as appropriate
