Violence Prevention and
Human Trafficking Response

Violence undermines physical and mental health and is often driven by social and economic inequities.
CommonSpirit is proud of its system-wide program to identify and assist victims of human trafficking, abuse,
neglect, and violence.

Your support helps us train thousands of physicians and caregivers to understand the signs and identify the
thousands of patients and families impacted by human trafficking. Donor funding also launched the Gun Safety
and Education Initiative that has already provided more than 1,000 gun locks to families and educated almost
9,000 students on gun safety.

CommonSpirit Takes a Stand

At CommonSpirit, our Human Trafficking (HT) Response Program equips physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and staff to identify and assist patients who may be experiencing human trafficking or other types of abuse, neglect, and violence. To do this, we implemented a system-wide Abuse, Neglect, and Violence policy, which requires acute and continuing care facilities to adopt procedures that support physicians, APPs, and staff in efforts to:

  • Identify patients who may be victims of violence, including human trafficking
  • Provide trauma-sensitive assistance to patients (e.g., using the PEARR Tool)
  • Complete mandated reporting requirements, if applicable and as appropriate
