Shannon Duval

Shannon Duval was first introduced to the idea of philanthropy as a vocation while serving as a graduate assistant at the Indiana University Foundation. In addition to a master’s degree in higher education administration and philanthropic studies, Shannon gained a lifelong love for health care philanthropy during her time at Indiana University.

Over 20 years later, Shannon serves as the deputy chief philanthropy officer and senior vice president of philanthropy for CommonSpirit Health, responsible for supporting philanthropic investments for CommonSpirit Health national initiatives. Additionally, Shannon leads efforts to support the growth of philanthropy across CommonSpirit Health, the nation’s largest nonprofit health system, which spans 21+ states and 80+ foundations. CommonSpirit Health is accessible to nearly one in every four United States residents. Most recently, Shannon served as the President and Chief Development Officer for the Catholic Health Initiatives National Foundation.

Shannon has also served as the president of the CHI Mercy Foundation in Des Moines, IA for six years, as well as the president of the St. Luke’s Health Care Foundation (Unity Point Health System.) In addition, Shannon served as a regional major gifts officer for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN.) Shannon spent six years as director of development for the University of Iowa Foundation, raising funds for the UI Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa hospitals and clinics.

Shannon currently serves on the board of regents for her alma mater, Luther College (Decorah, IA,) on the board of the Catholic Health Initiatives Colorado Foundation and the CHI Center for Research and Innovation. Additionally, she is a dean of the faculty for the Association for Health Care Philanthropy Madison Institute. Shannon has completed PhD coursework in higher education administration from the University of Iowa, and also holds a master of juris prudence in health law from Drake University Law School.

Shannon and her husband, DeLane reside in Castle Rock, CO, with their sons Miller and Kiefer.
