CommonSpirit Health recognized among top performing health care fundraisers by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy
Chicago, Ill. (December 7, 2023) – For the eighth-consecutive year, CommonSpirit Health has again been ranked among the top high-performing health care fundraisers in North America by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP). The result of data compiled in AHP’s 2023 Report on Giving, this recognition celebrates the combined performance of CommonSpirit’s 80-plus fundraising entities across its 21-state ministry as well as the national efforts of CommonSpirit Health Foundation.
Nancy Bussani, the Executive Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer, as well as the President of the CommonSpirit Health Foundation, emphasizes, “The philanthropic individuals who join us in our quest for health justice make our work on behalf of communities we serve. Achieving recognition as a leader in our industry is a profound honor, serving as a humble reminder of the remarkable potential that emerges when inspired generosity converges with our mission and purpose.”
CommonSpirit was recognized by AHP for achieving both the “High Performer: Overall” and “High Performer: Health System.” Published for more than 35 years, the annual Report on Giving shares information from AHP’s membership on their revenue and expense activities for each fiscal year. This year’s report (representing data from fiscal year 2022) included 161 respondents from the U.S. and 18 from Canada. CommonSpirit’s philanthropy ministry has consistently been recognized among the industry’s high performers since 2016 when AHP first ranked then-Dignity Health among the top 10 high-performing health care fundraisers in North America.
Overall high performers represent AHP's criteria of the top 25 percent in net production revenue across all respondents in the annual Report on Giving. In fiscal year 2022, these high performers raised more than $29.4 million in the U.S. and more than $28.5 million in Canada.
High performers in the Health System category represent those that reached the top 25 percent in net fundraising revenue out of all participating health systems in the Report on Giving. In fiscal year 2022, these high performers raised more than $40.3 million in the U.S.
The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy is an international professional organization dedicated exclusively to development professionals who encourage charity in health care organizations. AHP's 5,500 members represent more than 2,200 health care facilities around the world.
CommonSpirit Health has 80-plus fundraising entities located across the U.S. Over the past five years, these foundations have raised a combined $1.3 billion and in fiscal year 2022, CommonSpirit raised more than $300.1 million — a record-breaking amount for the organization — to ensure that it can continue to serve the vulnerable and build healthy communities. The organization does this nationally through CommonSpirit Health Foundation, and locally through its network of regional and community-based fundraising entities.
